Etude

For IF: Intricate

This painting was a real stinker to complete, and I'm not sure I'm completely happy with it. Please feel free to chime in with suggestions!

Aw don't be so hard on hard yourself. I like it. It's pleasant and neatly designed. :)

This is a really interesting and well rendered IF! I grew up in Detroit. Do they still have the talking fountain in your town? We went there every summer when I was a kid. I live in VA now. It was 73 F here today....oh yeah!

I really like it too. It's beautiful to look at. I'm wondering what your dissatisfaction with it is. The only thing I could possibly think of is that it doesn't really convey any sense of depth (if that's what you were after), but all reads flat on the surface, I think. But it's a REALLY COOL surface. Other than that...if it is that, which is very well may not be....I don't know.

Thank you all for your comments. Coreopsis, you are right on the money about my concerns; too flat! I got all caught up in the negative spaces and now, I think I should have done more with the perspective to make it recede properly. Oh, well, next time, I guess.

Deb,
Never heard of the talking fountain, but we do have a drinking fountain on Maple Street in the summer. Maybe that is it?

I think it's quite wonderful! Love all the shadows and connections.

It has a very tactile feel to it and I like the repetition of it!
